Staying Healthy Through Art

Katy Kingston Posted on June 23, 2018 by KatyJune 23, 2018

I’ve recently come to the realization that writing is necessary for my mental health. When I write, I’m less anxious and I’m less likely to feel a depressed kind of grayness. Happiness finds it easier to bubble up through my … Continue reading →

Ursula K. Le Guin, 1929-2018

Katy Kingston Posted on January 24, 2018 by KatyJanuary 24, 2018

Ursula K. Le Guin died yesterday. She was 88, which is a good, long life. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew this day was coming, but even there, where I tell myself the truth, there was denial, … Continue reading →

Lord Sebastian’s Wife Excerpt

Katy Kingston Posted on July 20, 2017 by KatyJuly 13, 2017

Hurrying down the path toward the river’s edge, Beatrice clenched her fists, trying by force of will to stop trembling. She did not know if she shook with anger, fear or hurt; it was all the same to her. Emotion … Continue reading →

Prince of Hearts Excerpt

Katy Kingston Posted on July 13, 2017 by KatyJuly 13, 2017

She stood framed by the doorway. Golden light licked across the velvety flesh exposed by her square neckline, a shadow hinting at the valley between her breasts. Candlelight shone in her eyes, making them appear enormous. She stepped forward. “Is … Continue reading →

The Return of the Prince

Katy Kingston Posted on June 27, 2017 by KatyJune 27, 2017

This is a brief note for anyone who went looking for Prince of Hearts this spring and could only find tattered used copies available: I’ve re-released it with a new cover, a new blurb, and a couple of tiny changes, things that I wish had been fixed in the original version but weren’t. (That’s the thing with copyediting: I looked it over, my critique group looked it over, my editor looked it over, the copy editor looked it over, I looked it over again…and errors still crept in. Given how much scrutiny the book got, it should have been pristine…except it was human beings doing the scrutinizing, and we’re wired to make mistakes.)

I loved writing this book probably more than I’ve loved working on any other book since. In it, I got to play around with the historical timeline while also trying to remain relatively true to the period. Feedback I’ve received indicates I succeeded in that, and that makes me happy.

Both Prince of Hearts and the next book in the Coleville series, Lord Sebastian’s Wife, are available as ebooks at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

For the Love of Linux

Katy Kingston Posted on June 19, 2017 by KatyJune 19, 2017

So I can write at lunchtime, I’ve been bringing a netbook to work for some time now. It’s been key to whatever productivity I have, so when the netbook became sl-o-o-o-o-o-o-w a few months ago, it was a serious (and … Continue reading →

It’s Complicated: Henry VIII, Katherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn

Katy Kingston Posted on June 1, 2017 by KatyJune 1, 2017

The other day, I started a book about Elizabeth I. I’m always interested in a good book about Elizabeth Tudor, so I was looking forward to it. (No, I’m not going to say which one.) I ended up closing it … Continue reading →

Whodunnit: Richard III or Henry VII

Katy Kingston Posted on May 7, 2017 by KatyMay 8, 2017

One of history’s great mysteries is what happened to the “Princes in the Tower,” the young sons of Edward IV who went into the Tower of London in 1483 and were never seen again. Some people believe their uncle, who … Continue reading →

About My Pens: Waterman Preface

Katy Kingston Posted on April 28, 2017 by KatyApril 28, 2017

I am passionate about pens. I’m especially fond of fountain pens, to the point I have more than I can reasonably use in a given week, yet I have no qualms about letting my covetousness lead me to purchases. Different … Continue reading →
